We all know that gadgets require subtle handling; anything it touches can be a potential damage maker. DSi Consoles are now available in Japan and soon the rest of the world, if you have purchased them or you have a DS Lite, you can follow these easy steps to prevent damaging your beloved handheld console.

First up in preventive measures is always purchase a carrying case with your DS. It may be bulky but this can easily protect the shell of the handheld. Even if the DS is sturdy enough, it can also be prone to scratches. You don’t want to have scratches on a gaming device because you usually bring it anywhere. This is a must especially for traveling. There can be hard shell carrying cases for the DS. Even for other cases, it can easily fit due to its small size. The upcoming DSi consoles are even slimmer. It is 12% smaller compared to the DS Lite, making it more manageable to fit in a small carrying case.

Another tip is to but a screen protector. Even if it is a touch screen, it always needs protection. You can expect it to get scratches as time goes by with endless presses from your fingers and the stylus. One thing to take note of, the screen protector is prone to catching dust particles during installation. Make sure you apply it in a room where there is no breeze or a probability of getting dust particles, once it stuck, consider them wasted as you can’t remove it and will have fingerprints upon installation. Let someone do it if you are in doubt in pulling it off as it takes precision to mount them, any errors will lead to a discarded screen protector.

In selected stores and some online, there are invisible protectors that can help alleviate those nasty scratches. There are full body kits in which you can assure that your DS Lite or DSi is still in its pristine condition albeit being tugged inside your pocket.

There is also the option of purchasing armor for your DS. Although it may be bulky, they provide excellent protection. They can be snapped on without having to use any tools.

Another is to opt for membrane-like protectors. This plastic protection can alleviate scratching. Although you can never all parts of the DS, it can also help even in small parts and preserving its spotless cosmetic appearance.

If you really are a little clumsy, consider purchasing a black DS. This will lessen the sights of blemishes or scratches. Fortunately, the new DSi console will come in a matte finish; this can lessen the sight of fingerprints and will likely get less noticeable scratches.

Wear and tear is a real pain sometimes, with having to reinforce the handheld console, it can easily breeze through months and even years of use without having too much scratches. With enough protection methods, you can choose which are less bothersome to you. Although there is nothing better than handling a DS Lite or Nintendo DSi consoles without protections, it may better be safe than sorry especially if you still don’t have a budget to buy an extra unit if it gets damaged.
